Farm Machinery III

“At times, themes force themselves upon me that contradict what people expect of me, like farm machinery. I was preoccupied by these dinosaurs in a whole series of paintings. In contrast to the idealization of the rural world, they are things that are plain and simply necessary. I believe that the themes in a very narrow subject area benefit from their contradiction, that the idyllic and the romantic would never have the same power and could not make as much of a statement if sharpness and grotesqueness did not provide contrast,” said Werner Berg of this painting.
