Two Women

Two women on a cold winter day in a church wearing coats and headscarfs – again, their patterns fascinate Werner Berg – located under the outlined crucifix which after all determines the lives of these women and hung above them appears like a heavy burden.  Sharp features of Slovenian women are reduced to their mere essentials.

No matter how small the scope of reality, an artist can never exhaust it, but his painted visions of the choosen reality are going to bear eloquent witness to the reality used as a basis when it will become a victim of the modern, industrial society. In his artistic transposition, Berg again and again points the integrative characteristics of his world, and beyond the borders of individuality and coincidence constantly strives for fundementalism within his society, and what he gives to us is therefore an edifying and humble image of a human being.
